FAQs
What makes Care Kits different from just donating medical supplies?
The medical supplies that we receive through general donations or in addition to shoe patterns are used for weekly clinics. The Care Kits are used specifically for Outreach as tools and supplements to the education families and children receive.
Why is there a required donation for each Kit?
The required donation for each Kit covers the additional supplies needed to complete each Kit. The additional supplies, educational materials, wash basins, and bar soap can be acquired easier and for less money in Uganda than it would cost us to purchase here and ship.
What is the Outreach House?
For adults and children who require more extensive treatment, Sole Hope brings them to the Outreach House where they receive food, clothing, medical treatment, housing and education during their stay. Sole Hope maintains staff at the Outreach House so that patients receive supervision and care 24 hours a day.
Does the size of the bag matter?
Yes, please use snack size bags for packing the cotton balls and quart size bags for all of the listed supplies. These sizes minimize wasted space.
Do the medical supplies have to be a certain brand?
No. Any brand of supplies can be used.
Can multiple sizes of safety pins be used?
The safety pins are the tools used to remove jiggers, so large safety pins (2” are great) are ones easiest to hold and maneuver to get the job done.
Are holiday stickers okay to include?
When choosing stickers, try to pick ones that are recognizable in any country and that are not tied to a specific holiday/country/etc.
Does the cost of the Kit include shipping to the Sole Hope office?
No, the cost of the Kit only includes your instructional materials and required donation for 10 Kits. The shipping is the responsibility of the host.
So for $20, I get a DVD and discount … but I am to provide everything else? Bags, supplies?
I’m trying to have my students at school help, but they wouldn’t have the means to purchase materials
Stacy,
Yes, that is correct. You need to provide the supplies to go in the kits. They are very simple things like baggies, bandaids, antibiotic ointment, etc. Everything can be purchased at the Dollar Store.
Thank you for your interest!
We have 85 fifth-graders doing a community service project related to their promotion to middle school. We had just selected a shoe-cutting party as our main project (consulted with teachers, administrators, etc.). Now I am seeing that the program is suspended – it’s disappointing. Would you consider allowing us to do a shoe-cutting party as long as we have sponsorships? If not, then we might do the Care Kits (although I think it won’t take them much time). But, how much should we budget to acquire the materials for the kits? We need to figure out if this would work in our budget.
Laura,
If you have already purchased your Shoe Party Kit, we would love for you to still do the party while including sponsorship for each pair of shoes! If you have any other questions regarding this please email party@solehope.org! Thank you for your support!
“each kit needs to be sponsored”
How much does it cost to sponsor one kit?
Rose,
Each pair of shoes need to be sponsored at $10.00 each. If you are referring to the Care Kits, the purchase of your kit covers the sponsorship for 10 kits. After that, we ask that you include $2.00 sponsorship for each kit to help purchase the remaining supplies needed (like a wash basin and soap for example).
Thank you for your interest and support!
What is the sponsorship dollar amount needed with each care kit returned to you?
Tafline,
You sponsor 10 Care Kits with the purchase of your party. For every kit made beyond that we ask for a $2.00 sponsorship to purchase the other needed materials (a water basin, bar soap, etc.).
Thank you for your support!
What supplies will we need to be packing into the kits?
Linda,
The list is included in the Care Kit Booklet (that comes in the Care Kit in our online store). It is very simple medical supplies that you can purchase at the Dollar Store such as bandaids and antibiotic ointment. Thank you for your interest!
We won’t be having a party but would like to send in a few Care Kits from time to time…1) may we do that? 2) where do we find a list of items to include in the Care Kit? 3) anything else we should know to do that?
Thanks
Absolutely! The list of items that need to be included in each Care Kit is located in the Care Kit Booklet (which you can purchase on our website). The kit that you purchase provides the sponsorship for 10 Care Kits. After that, we ask that you include a $2.00 sponsorship for each kit to allow us to purchase the other needed materials (such as a wash basin and soap).
Thank you for your interest and support!
Where can I get a list of the medical supplies needed? Are they readily accessible items?
Charlene,
The list of the specific items is located in the Care Kit booklet. They are very simple items that you can buy at the Dollar Store like bandaids and antibiotic ointment!
Thank you for your interest!
Hi There
We did the shoe cutting party two years ago. Now looking to do the care kit party. So basically do you provide a list of things and we supply them and pack into individual kits? This sounds doable….my son is 12, but if I got the supplies donated , he could get together with his friends and pack the kits.
Just checking we can complete the task if we go ahead.
Barb,
That’s exactly right! It’s very simple medical supplies you can pick up at the Dollar Store! It would be a great thing for 12 year olds.
Thank you for your support!
I have lots of mrdical supplies from a shoe cutting party I hosted. Should I simply mail the supplies out to uour office or is it preferred I mak e these into kits?
Jania,
We are happy for you to still donate the medical supplies as they are. We use those for jigger clinics. The supplies that are made into kits will be given out at our Outreach House when the patients are resettled. Thank you for your support!
It looks like one has to purchase the Care Party Kit (for $20) in order to see the list of supplies. I imagine that this is because you want to insure that you receive the $20, which is used to buy further supplies in Uganda.
However, before spending the $20 just to receive a list, it would be nice to know what it might cost to purchase the items on the list. You say that it’s items available at a dollar store, but your web site readers don’t know if it’s 5, 20 or 40 items from the dollar store!
Perhaps you could give us some information such as this: an estimated cost to purchase supplies for 10 kits (which are sponsored by your $20 payment in buying the kit) as of May 2017 is $15-23.
That’s a great suggestion Nancy! It should cost approximately $2.50 in supplies per kit. Of course, that cost could decrease if you bought in bulk or partnered with a church or community organization and had them do a drive for the supplies and you put the kits together. We are happy to offer you suggestions on how to decrease the cost if you want to email us at party@solehope.org!
We would like to have a Care Kit Party pretty soon – May 13 to be exact. If ordered today, would the kit be delivered on time? (How long does it take to receive a kit?)
Jennifer,
You could order the digital kit! But, the physical kit should get to you in time as well. It usually takes about 5-7 business days for delivery. Thanks for wanting to have a party!
I’m trying to determine if this would be a good project to do with our kids at church. It would be helpful if I could see the instructions so I know what’s involved before spending the $20 to sponsor 10 kits. Once completed, where will the items be shipped to? This will also help me figure in shipping costs.
Sue,
We completely understand. All the items are things that you can grab at the Dollar store (think bandaids, cotton balls, etc.). It would be a great project for the kids at church to do, as the church could do a drive for all the supplies and the kids could assemble the kits! The items will be shipped to Salisbury, NC when they are done. If you have any other questions feel free to email party@solehope.org!
Do I understand that I cannot just cut out the shoe kits, I must pay $2 for each kit I donate? I have boxes of levis and thought this would be a great cause but a social security budget would never cover the additional charge. I think you would get more cut out kits if it didn’t have the additional fee. Sorry I cannot help you.
Gloria,
It is a $10.00 sponsorship for the jean shoes. This covers shipping, extra materials, and paying the Tailors and Shoemakers. We have been getting lots of shoes in, but unfortunately only 1/3 of them are sponsored, which is why we are needing to pause and restructure the Shoe Parties. The shoes are great, but if we don’t have the funds to finish the process it doesn’t work. Thank you for asking!
Just to clarify you want $10 per pair of shoes and we still pay to shuo them to you?
That is correct! The $10 per pair of shoes does not include shipment to North Carolina.
I recently ordered & just received a shoe cutting kit…wish you had converted that to the current need for these supply kits if you no longer need the shoes cut! Please advise me on whether or not I’m wasting time & money on the shoe cutting party…I can’t ask people for something you do not actually need!!
It would be nice to have a return comment….this silence doesn’t bode well for your organization. I hope I haven’t made a mistake encouraging others to look into ways of working with you & supporting you. Please respond to my comments- at this time I’m canceling my party. I’m interested in returning the shoe cutting kit…I have no use for it.
Trish,
I am so sorry that we are just getting to reply to your comment. Unfortunately we are a very small staff and have a large increase in communication over the last 2 weeks. We definitely still need shoes cut, as we are not slowing down making them or distributing them in Uganda. If you would still like to have your Shoe Party we would be most grateful, we just ask that you don’t send them in until they are all sponsored (at $10 a pair). If you have any other questions please email party@solehope.org.
I’m assuming that the best donation, right now, is money? This would be used to get the shoes made and distributed? Are the care kits as necessary?
Carolyn,
That is correct! The Care Kits are necessary, as right now our Staff in Uganda is having to put them together with the medical supplies that people have been donating, but we would love to get sponsors for many of the pairs of unsponsored shoes that have come in over the years! You can donate directly to shoe sponsorship here: https://purecharity.com/sole-hope-shoe-sponsorships
Thank you for your support!
I already have a pkg. Of 120 shoes and 400 dollars to send. Can I still send this ??? Please let me know asap. Thanks. Rita Birge from Peace Lutheran .Post Falls Idaho. Email is moosehollowid@hotmail.com
Rita,
Please send 40 pairs of shoes along with the $400.00 donation. Then you can send in the rest of the remaining shoes as you get sponsors for them. If you would like some fundraising ideas please email fundraising@solehope.org! Thank you for your support!
I already had a few shoe cutting parties & raised some money. Would it be alright to send what I’ve done already?
Sarah,
Absolutely! We would love for you to send in anything that has sponsorship with it! Thank you!
Perhaps you don’t hear it often enough, but “thank you” for having a heart for “the least of these” just as Jesus did. We are so abundantly blessed with resources here in the US. Even those of us with very limited incomes are incredibly wealthy, by comparison, to many others worldwide – especially in third world countries like Uganda. A gift of $10 or $20 to provide life-transforming care and exhibit the love of Christ in a tangible way… priceless!
Kim –
Thank you so much for the encouraging words! We as a team need them! I will make sure to share your comment with the rest of the team.
Your understanding and support is greatly appreciated!
We have been in plans for a shoe cutting party for awhile now. My Girl Scout troop was doing this as a service project. We partnered with other troops to collect the supplies (jeans & plastic) and were in the final stages of planning the day. However, now with this suspension I’m not sure how to proceed. We can donate some, but have collected quite a stack of supplies and would not be able to gaurentee sponsorship for every pair. What would you suggest. Will you not accept kits w/out sponsorship? I’m just not sure how to proceed or what to tell my girls.
Nicole,
That is correct. We would still love for you to have the party, but can not accept shoes without sponsorship. So, maybe you can team the girls up so that they all still participate, but you don’t cut more shoes that you have sponsorship for. If you would like other suggestions for fundraising ideas please email fundraising@solehope.org Thank you!
I have totally misunderstood that you need to send $10 with each pair of shoes. We will rework our plan and make sure we get the money.
Could this be worded a little clearer in the booklet you send out to plan the parties.
Vickie,
Thank you for the suggestion! Yes, rewording is part of what we are doing while we revamp the Shoe Parties during this time off. :0)
My schedule doesn’t permit a Care Kit Party right now, but I’d like to assist financially for the purchase of kit items in Uganda or to help with the cost of producing shoes from the Shoe Kits that have arrived unsponsored. What is the best way to do this?
Dale,
Thank you! You can donate at this link and it will go specifically to Care Kit supplies: https://purecharity.com/care-kit-sponsorship
You can donate at this link and it will help sponsor shoes: https://purecharity.com/sole-hope-shoe-sponsorships
We appreciate your support!
I ordered the care kit and have 20 kits to send in. Question: do I put $20 or $40 in the envelope. Also since I plan to keep doing it, I wasn’t going to send for anymore kits , but make a photo copy of the envelope and add the additional $20 when I sent another box to cover another kit. Am I making sense?
If this will help I found antibiotic cream for .88 cents at Wall-Mart . I estimate that each bag cost about $3-5 as i did it all on my own this time. Plan to have a party now and then as i also do the shoes on my own, too.
I wrote a blog about what I was doing and contacted several people to help.
Carol,
Thank you so much for your support! If you purchased the kit (sponsoring 10 kits) and did 10 extra kits you should include $20.00 (10 kits x $2 = $20.00). If you want to do more, just include $2.00 per kit, so if you do 20 more kits, you’ll include $40.00 next time. I hope that makes sense! If you have any other questions please email party@solehope.org!
Please clarify. We have packaged the shoe patterns in bags of 5 patterns each. Does that mean each bag of 5 patterns needs a $50.00 sponsorship?
Yes! You’ve got it exactly! Thank you!
Thank you to the Sole Hope Team for everything that you do to ensure a better quality of life for so many little feet! I can’t wait to host a Care Party in the spring!!
Wendy,
Thank you SO MUCH for your enthusiasm and kinds words! Hope you have a blast at your party!
Since you have so many shoes that were not supported, would it be helpful to promote a drive to sponsor those shoes which were not sponsored? And I do wish that you shared the love of Christ with these kids as they get their jiggers out or a color book about Jesus to take home with them. I know you don’t want to push them, but this is a Christian ministry missing the sharing aspect.
Dede,
We have our Ten for Ten Program, which is a great way to sponsor a pair of shoes every month without cutting them. You can read more about that at the link below.
https://purecharity.com/ten
Although we aren’t an evangelical organization, the children who stay at the Outreach House do have Bible Classes with their education during their stay with us! 🙂
I have shoes to send along with money. How do I get the money to you? Do you want it as cash in the box I will be sending or do I sign in to the link for donations and add it there? Also I would like to do a Collection Drive. Do I need to send money like the kits or just the supplies would be good?
Gina,
Wonderful! Thank you! We don’t recommend putting cash in with the shoes, but you could include a check or donate online. If you donate at the link below it will be designated for Shoe Sponsorship. It would be great for you to do a donation drive. If you are not assembling kits you don’t need to include a donation (but of course we would love it if you did.) 🙂

Thank you for your support!
Hello. I was thinking of hosting a Care Kit Party for my soon to be 12 year old. I thought this would be a good activity, but want to know approximately how much time does it take to put the kit together? And, how many different items in each kit? I want to be sure there’s enough for the kids to do and stay busy!
Maureen,
It is a rather quick activity depending on how many kits you have supplies for. There are 7 different items that go in each kit. The supplies will need to be broken down and separated into different quantities before they start assembling, and we also recommend including a note, card, or drawing in each one so that would take some time as well. If you would like more ideas / recommendations please email party@solehope.org. Thank you and Happy Birthday to your child!
Hi. Great job with all you do in Uganda and helping people to remain Jigger free. I’ve followed your work for sometime now. I’m in Australia and would like to get involved with Care Kits and with Shoe Cutting Parties when they return. Where would I need to post kits to? Wondering if the cost is too prohibitive?
Karen,
You can post your supplies to the United States, or if you would like to post it straight to Uganda we can give you that information as well! Please email party@solehope.org for more information! Thank you for your kind words and wanting to get involved!
Would love to be involved went to a sole party just before you put it on hold so now with the medical bags It says pay $127 to post directions to me in Australia for original $20 kit. How much is it going to cost to send bags back. Maybe we need a depot in Australia ! Congrats on all your work. Do I pay $20 online and then print them off?
Hazel,
If you are wanting to purchase a Care Kit party I would recommend purchasing the digital kit. That way there is no shipping charge! You can read the instructions right on your computer screen or print them out for future use after your purchase. If you have any other questions please email party@solehope.org! Thank you!
I want to host a kit party for my birthday. Have any good ideas on fundraising and getting my friends involved during a birthday get together?
Jennifer,
We would love to help you with this! Please email fundraising@solehope.org for ideas and resources!
Hello, So if we planned to assemble 90 kits it would be $180 dollars, correct?
That is correct!
Just confirming that you are still wanting the care kits since I see no comments since May? Thank you!
Yes, we do! Thank you!
Does the antibiotic cream need to be 1oz? Are smaller sizes ok?
If they are smaller we would like for you to put enough to make up 1 oz. of cream total. If you have any other questions please feel free to email amy@solehope.org! She is our party specialist and would be happy to help!
I just ordered a kit so we can add a Care Kit party to our church’s children’s ministry service project calendar. Can you tell me if it is possible for us to drop off the supplies in Salisbury, NC rather than mailing them? I have family that lives in Salisbury and could always use an excuse for a visit and save on shipping. 🙂
Absolutely! Please just email holly@solehope.org to set up a time to drop off and visit the office!
Hello! I’ve just learned about jiggers and your ministry for the first time, and am very excited! What a wonderful, practical thing to do for the little ones that Jesus loves! THANK YOU for all your hard work, and for being good stewards of everything involved to make this came together well!
I wonder… if it were a little bit clearer somewhere on your website, perhaps at the top of the page of how to help or on your shoe party page, that funds are needed to complete the shoes you already have, and once those funds are received, (or warehouse able to be emptied, or whatever the case), the shoe parties will begin again, whether you might receive some larger donations from people who could help in that way? I sure wish I could!! :). It would be neat to see a “thermometer” showing funds being collected to complete those shoes, (for those beautiful little feet), and might generate enthusiasm about completing that task!
At any rate, I’m so impressed and excited about what you’re doing, and think you’re doing an incredible job!
It’s terrific that you encourage a drawing and/or a letter or card to be sent. I imagine this maybe a very special part of the gift these children receive! Is it also OK to send a photo?
Thank you, again!
Hope all that makes sense!
Thank you for your kind words! You can absolutely include a photo. :0)
Are we responsible to pay for the shipping of the care kits?
To NC, yes. Then Sole Hope gets them to Uganda!
I would like to purchase a kit for my students to be a part of the Sole Hope Project. When will you offer the opportunity to purchase a kit for shoe cutting? In the meantime, we will begin work on the care kits.
Thank you! We will list 25 more kits on the first of every month at 9 a.m. Eastern time!
I bought a Care Kit Party(through the mail) for my daughter’s high school National Honor Society (NHS) today, but my daughter came home and told me she needs the list of supplies for each care kit tonight (has to email it to the adult NHS mentor). Is there any way you could send me a list of the supplies so we can start the high school paperwork to purchase them?
So sorry we weren’t able to get this information to you when you needed it! I hope everything turned out okay! Thank you for your support!
What is the difference between the printed and downloadable versions for the care kits?
Everything is the same, except that you either get the information in printed form in the mail or you get an email with everything for you to download right on your computer.
Do we pay for the shipping cost?
Greetings,
Can you please advise why the care kits are not available?
Thanks Much
I am disappointed as my Girl Scouts were going to cut shoes patterns and now they do not seem to be available. When will we be able to order again?
Theresa,
We list 25 kits on the 1st of every month at 9:00 am CST in our online store. Thank you for wanting to help!
Hi! My team is so excited about having a Care Kit Party! I have sent for the kit and understand that I have bought 10 kit spots (for lack of better wording) & that we will be buying some supplies to put in them. I have two questions, 1. about how much money will need to be spent on each kit (I read we can buy the supplies from the dollar store). Just a guess please like $5 -$10- $20??
2. What is the cost & protocol for mailing the kits back?
Thank you for everything you do!!!!
Helen,
Thank you for hosting a Care Kit! Depending on where you are purchasing supplies and in what bulk the supplies will cost approximately $8-$10 per kit. Unfortunately I can’t give you an idea of cost to mail it back because that all depends on several factors: where you’re mailing from, what the weight and size of your package is, and what method you’re using to ship (USPS, UPS, FedEx). Your kit will come with full instructions on where to mail them back!
If you have any further questions about parties, please email party@solehope.org
Thank you for your support!
Do the antibiotic ointment tubes need to be a certain size? Some have donated 1 oz tubes and others have donated .5 oz tubes. Also, a congregation member donated left-over surgical care supplies like 4×4 gauze pads, ace bandages, etc. Can I send those as extra medical supplies or do they need to be drugstore brands? Thanks in advance!
Laci, thank you for your support through Care Kit Parties!! The tubes do not have to be a certain size, and supplies can be any brand. The other supplies would be appreciated and used for sure! I do encourage you to remove all outer packaging and bag each supply (gauze pads, ace bandages, etc.) separately in ziplock bags to save on space.
Thank you so much for offering a beautiful way to make a difference in the world. We are so excited to do our shoe cutting party tomorrow and can’t wait to love others through this. Now we can add a care kit party to our list too!
Jen! Thank YOU so much!! How did the party go?
I purchased my kit to use with my youth group, but was hoping to make an additional purchase. Where can I find the discount code?
Nadine,
You can email amy@solehope.org for that code! Thank you!
