Sole Hope Experience: Journey of Hope

We invite you and your family to journey with us to Uganda to see firsthand the work being done. Come experience HOPE!

This experience will give you opportunities to learn, serve, connect as a family, and fall in love with Uganda and its people. Our hope is that each member of your family walks away from this trip with a greater understanding of the problems facing the people of Uganda, an appreciation of the unique culture and country in which they live, a deeper connection to the mission of hope, and a stronger desire to advocate on behalf of those in need.

As a parent, you want to raise good children. You know that for that to happen, you have to be intentional about the experiences that shape your family. With school, dance class, soccer practice and everything else in your life, how many chances do you really get to serve as a family?

*At this time we are only accepting applications for trips from those residing in the USA and Canada.  We want to encourage anyone that lives in other countries to email for more information about how you might join us in Uganda!

On this journey you can expect to:

  • Visit the Sole Hope facilities and connect with the staff

  • Participate in a Jigger Clinic

  • Volunteer at the The Hope Center

  • Explore Jinja town and the Source of the Nile

  • Get dirty (there’s nothing quite like the red dirt roads of Uganda)

  • Be challenged

  • Be changed

  • Have a one-of-a-kind experience

If you are ready for all of these things and more, now is your chance!

 Ashley Redburn

Ashley currently lives in Missouri with her husband and 5 children. Having grown up in the US Air Force, she and her family moved around often. Ashley appreciates having been able to experience life in different places, including South Dakota, Korea, Washington DC, Nebraska, Illinois, and Alaska. Ashley works as the Stateside Program Director for Sole Hope full time from her home in Missouri. In her free time, she can be found drinking coffee, watching her kids many sporting events, reading, and introducing her children to the world.  In 2010 Ashley made her first trip to Africa by traveling to Ethiopia to adopt two of her sons. They had lived their early lives with jiggers and three years later, she was able to go to Uganda with Sole Hope to help fight this very issue. Ashley adores Uganda for its red dirt roads, hospitable people, and contagious joy that overflows through everyone you meet. She believes that you will never be the same after visiting Uganda.

Amy Cates

From an early age, Amy desired to see more of the world and all it has to offer. Little did she know that she would feel so at home in a place like Uganda, Africa, but that’s just how her story goes. After her first trip to Uganda in 2013, she knew she would be back as often as she could. Amy has a great love for Uganda, its landscapes, its culture and its people. She describes it as contagious, vibrant, communal, complex, and captivating. She learns more every time she visits and has a passion for sharing her love of Uganda with others. When she is not leading trips, Amy works from her home in Alabama serving as the Director of Development for Sole Hope. Her free time is filled with family, sports, homework, books, music, and Netflix. If you are looking for a unique experience that will stretch you, change you, challenge and enrich you, Amy invites you to join her.
